SKIDEGATE INLET AND HECATE STRAIT

The awesome landscape of Skidegate Inlet in Northern British Columbia is one of the main spots for our tours. This is the body of water that dissects the Queen Charlotte Islands going from Hecate Strait to the Pacific Ocean. It is full of interesting attractions including Sandspit, Skidegate, Queen Charlotte City, Alliford Bay, Slatechuck Mountain, Maude Island, the Queen Charlotte Range and many more. There are many vantage points along this inlet from which to view the panoramic landscape of most of the Queen Charlotte Islands. The local aboriginal people, the Haida, have occupied these areas since time immemorial. Monumental Queen Charlotte Islands totem poles in their many prehistorical sites attest to this fact. The area is teeming with wildlife and sea mammals. In the spring of each year it is one of the few areas in the world where gray whales are most plentiful. They can be seen all along the shorelines as well as the deeper areas. Their enormous waterspouts attest to their presence. They frequent this particular stretch of British Columbia because of its plentitude of krill and hering. The enormous black bears, indigenous to the Queen Charlotte Islands, can frequently be seen foraging along the shorelines.
